Seeing Jesus
Mrs. Dora Wilson was known as the nosy lady in the neighborhood. One morning, she looked out her window and saw a group of men loading her neighbors' expensive Persian rugs onto a large truck.
Now she, of course being nosy, knew her neighbors were on vacation, so she walked across the street and asked, “What are you men doing?”
They said, “Well, your neighbors are on vacation.”
She said, “I know that.”
They said, “Well, they wanted to take advantage of our free rug treatment service. We're taking these rugs to be cleaned.”
Oh, well, she hadn’t heard about this. But Mrs. Wilson was never one to miss out on an opportunity, so quick as a flash she said, “While you’re here. Can you take mine as well?”
The men were more than happy to oblige. They were house robbers.
Things are not always what they seem.
• Magazine covers display beautiful models who are really the products of special lighting, airbrushing & Photoshop.
• In politics, we talk about symbolism over substance.
• Every presidential debate has to be followed by fact-checking. Because politicians are infamous for making big promises, but not telling the truth.
Maybe you went on a date with someone who seemed too good to be true? So beautiful, so smart, so popular—you thought, “This person’s amazing. They’re out of my league.”
But on the 1st date, you realize they’re boring, or stuck-on-themselves.
They were nothing like you thought.
But the greatest disparity between appearance & reality is that we live in a world blanketed by spiritual blindness.
