Childlike Faith

Matthew 18:1-6 "Childlike Faith”

Outline:

1. Conversion in Christ (repentant) v.1-3

2. Conformed to Christ (humble) v. 4

3. Cautioned by Christ (consequences) v.5-6

Sin Condition Focus: Because our sin nature is “mature” we can live in misguided faith…we need God’s spirit to live with a childlike faith.

1. The disciples of Jesus asked him a simple question about the Kingdom of Heaven. Why do you think their immediate thought was “who is the greatest” in heaven?

2. Jesus’ illustration to the disciples’ question must have been a surprise when He brought a little child. What do you think the most surprising aspect of Jesus’ answer was to them?

3. Thankfully throughout Scripture we see how Jesus loves people and especially little children. What are ways we can follow through with showing compassion and love to the weak, lost, and little children?

4. Jesus showed us how to be a humble servant by coming to earth and exhibiting serving others (e.g. washing feet). We don’t wash feet today, but what are things we can do to serve others in our community and show the love of Christ?

5. John the Baptist said that Jesus must increase and I must decrease. In what ways does that sound like foolishness to the world’s way of thinking? How can we show the world that it is actually a better way of living to those who think it is foolishness?

6. Jesus’ warning about leading little ones away from him is very sobering. In what ways can we convey the seriousness of being responsible with the Gospel to the little children? How can we participate in programs that help little children?

7. Our daily lives are so busy and we get so distracted by our sin nature. How can you live dedicated and on mission to serve others, live humbly, and trust God wholeheartedly?
