Welcome to Rooted!
Who we are
Rooted is Morningside’s college-aged group that meets every Sunday at 11:00. Our mission is to Dig deep. Grow strong. Reach out.
We can’t wait for another school year of growing strong in our faith together.
Discuss and apply truth in a small group community
What Should I expect?
This year, in addition to weekly small group discussion we’re excited to host discussion panels about topics YOU want to talk about. We’ll discuss practical issues in life to help you grow in grace and the knowledge of Jesus.
You can also expect…
dynamic worship
friendly people
down-to-earth small group discussion
and of course, food :)
We can’t wait to welcome new and returning students this Sunday! Hope to see you soon!
Rooted Service & Recital
On November 6, Rooted will lead the evening service. There will also be a recital beforehand. Would you like to sing or play?
Rooted will be running the evening service on November 6. Rooted students will lead our congregational singing, present special music, and preach the evening sermon.
Jake Motter gives a testimony November 14, 2021.
Before the service, we’ll have a sacred recital open to all ages. Register by October 30 to sing or play.
Rooted Service & Fellowship
This Sunday evening, Rooted will lead the evening service. There will also be a fellowship afterwards. Why do we go to all this effort for young people who are only here for a few years?
This Sunday, Rooted will be running the evening service. Rooted students will lead our congregational singing, present a few special numbers, and Jalen Ontoy will preach from God’s Word. There will also be a pizza fellowship in the gym following the service. All this begs the question, “Why spend so much time and effort on these young people who are only here for a few years?”
Intergenerational ministry is worth it.
It builds up our faith through community.
Community is the buzzword these days, for several reasons. One of those reasons is that Gen Z is passionate about community. They long for depth and substance. They crave authenticity and openness. The local church can and ought to provide this community through intentional, intergenerational discipleship.
“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works”
Take Titus 2 for example. Paul writes to older men and older women, urging them to live a life of good works. Older members have a God-given responsibility to live out the gospel as an example to the younger men and women in the church. Our Rooted class needs to see how what you profess and what you practice align. As they observe your faithfulness they will feel like they can come to you with their doubts and questions. Your ministry to college students matters.
It keeps us accountable.
This is where community comes into play. As you build relationships with older, mature believers allow them to hold you accountable. They’ve been where you are and can save you a lot of heartache. Listen humbly to the godly wisdom of your elders.
It provides the platform for us to exercise our spiritual gifts.
Many in Gen Z have a deep desire to be a part of something that will ultimately make a difference. The church is the vehicle that God has chosen to accomplish His kingdom-building work.
If you are a believer, God has entrusted you with a gift that He intends for you to use in His church. In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul compares the church to a body made up of many different body parts. His point is that even though we are different (in culture, age, interests, etc.), we are united for the same purpose. Whether you’re stacking chairs, leading singing, or helping with the youth group, you are making an eternal impact for God’s glory. Young adult, commit to the local church.
Intergenerational ministry is a messy business, but it is worth it. I hope you will join us this Sunday evening to encourage and build relationships with the young people that God has entrusted to us.
Why Small Groups?
The mission of Rooted is to Dig Deep, Grow Strong, Reach Out. We believe that small groups is the best way we can fulfill this mission.
We look forward to welcoming over 150 returning students back to our Rooted college ministry this Sunday! Many first-year students and their families will be visiting as well, so we anticipate a very exciting time together. The mission of Rooted is to Dig Deep, Grow Strong, Reach Out. One of the methods we use to fulfill this mission is the small group.
1. Small groups help us dig deeper into God’s Word.
Rooted meets at 11:00 am, after the 10:00 am worship service. After a brief time of singing and testimony, we break up into small groups to reflect and meditate on the message we just heard. Small group leaders ask probing questions that help us connect the sermon to real life. Through discussion, Rooted adults find specific ways to apply truth to their lives, moving from being a “hearer of the Word” to an active “doer of the Word.”
2. Small groups allow us to grow strong in our faith.
The best discipleship happens life-on-life. A small group naturally fosters authentic relationships. In small group, our Rooted adults build meaningful relationships with mature Christians and people their own age. Rooted students get to observe how real disciples struggle and deal with difficult questions. We don’t want our Rooted adults to check their brain at the door when they come to church. Instead, we welcome questions and fears because we know that God’s Word is sufficient for life and godliness.
3. Small groups give us a chance to reach out to our world.
A small group leader’s ministry is not limited to an hour of discussion after the morning service. Small group leaders frequently invite their group over to their homes, and they find ways to reach out during the week. These relationships provide an added layer of accountability. We have seen Rooted adults keep others in their small group accountable in areas like discipleship and evangelism. It is an exciting thing when young adults are pushing each other to serve in outreach ministry through the local church.
Rooted Leads PM Service
This Easter our Rooted college age class led the worship in the main auditorium. We led the church in beautiful song and great preaching from BJU student Isaac Perry. Thanks for all your service to the Lord.

Rooted in the Parking Lot
We had 53 young people from Rooted participate in a fellowship following Sunday night’s Singspiration. After some pizza, we enjoyed game time together in the gym and in the parking lot.
Jesus is Worthy!
What a wonderful time we had today in the Lord’s house! Our students were able to lead the main choir, sing in the first service, read Scripture, and share a testimony. It was such a blessing to sing songs of praise! We are reminded to praise the Lord every week.
During Sunday school retired Lieutenant Colonel BC Christmas gave a powerful testimony on how he praises God for his cancer! He shared about his miraculous recovery after he was told he had a 25% chance of survival. He reminded us as we all go through tribulation we need to rely on Christ for our strength. If God is for us who can be against us? What can be against us? Nothing. We are so thankful for the perfect Lamb who made all of this possible. So today & every day, praise the Lord!
Thank you to the young men and women who filled our auditorium with song and worship on Sunday. We are sad to see you go! We say good-bye to dozens of students this week but are looking forward to seeing them all again in January!

Thanks to our Veteran's
More than Meets the Eye - Mark 12:35-40
We all enjoyed Pastor Crockett’s message on focusing on the heart and not the externals of dress and appearance. We met in our small groups for some great time of Bible study and discussion. Looking forward to next week’s time together.

Serve God and Country - Civil Leaders Sunday
Pastor Crockett shared from God’s Word in Mark 12:14-16. Jesus rebuked the religious leaders about giving unto the government that which belongs to government and give unto God that which is God’s. The government should receive our taxes, submission, and honor. We need to give God everything we have.
One of our small group leaders Adam Morgan serves as SC State House 20th District representative shared how God has called him to serve in the government. Please be praying for our country and this election.

The Lord is My Shepherd - Psalm 23
After an emotional first hour where we celebrated law enforcement officers in our annual thin blue Sunday, Pastor Crockett shared how the Lord is our shepherd. In the gym we enjoyed some great singing and heard a wonderful testimony from Camryn Rickard. She shared how we can rely on the power of the Holy Spirit and to use our gifts for God! We are thankful for Jeff Bryson who shared some insightful ways to rely on God. We finished the hour by going into our small groups!

Caring for Others
Our group was able to participate in the main service on Sunday. First, the baptism of Noah Villiger and then we had our Rooted men’s ensemble sing! They were a blessing. In Sunday School Sarah Stuhl shared how the Lord showed her how to have joy in the book of Philippians. Dr Nathan Crockett gave a very moving challenge sharing how we should go to our heavenly Father.
We are so thankful for everyone participating & helping things run smoothly. Your participation through music, testimonies, face painting, and working in the children’s ministries serve the body of Christ. We are so thankful for you! If you would like to plug in and serve please contact one of the leaders and we can help find a place for you.

Loving God - Mark 12:30
What a blessing to spend time together in Rooted with wonderful music & testimonies. Danielle Boyle shared how trusting God & His ways are so much better. What a privilege to hear real testimonies from our group on how good God is working & how we can apply that to our lives. Our small group discussion dug deep into the message we heard about Love and the Law. What a wonderful challenge we have this week to spend time alone with God to not ask anything but to just tell Him how much we love Him. Pray asking God to help you!

Cast Your Care on Jesus - 1 Pet 5:7
What a wonderful start to October hearing evangelist Brent Sivintstky speak about how God cares for our souls & casting our cares on Him. Elizabeth Scroggins shared her story about how God never left her when she started to stray! Praise the Lord for that! What a blessing to see God moving in our small groups & through the students as they participate each week. We are so thankful for every one of them!

Small Group Hour & Park Service
After some wonderful singing and music we were able to hear Abby Herr’s testimony. It is such a blessing to see how God moved in the lives of students over the summer. Brad Harris gave a short but great thought on Pastor’s message before we broke out into our small groups.
We had a great time at the Butler Springs Park service of singing, testimonies, games, and a great devotional. The Lord has provided all we need in Christ Jesus…do not chase after anything else.

Testimony, Singing, and Small Groups
During our small group hour Austin Huffman shared a great testimony about how God can even use tragic circumstances in our lives. How we can trust and lean on God especially during the hard times. We also sang powerful music and we’re truly blessed before going into our small groups. Our lesson was about how all earthly relationships take cultivating. We often fail in comparison to the complete relationship we will have with Jesus Christ one day! We strive to continue personal relationships during our times together. Join us to dig deep and grow in God's Word.

Small Groups Again & Worship in Park
What a wonderful first week back to small groups! We had the opportunity to dive deep into Pastor’s message and find ways to directly apply it to our lives! It was a blessing to hear how the Holy Spirit stirred in each of our hearts in the small group setting. We are very excited to see God moving this year and how He will continue to move and use small groups to encourage each other to serve Christ!
Last night we met at Herdklotz Park and were a testimony for Christ in our community. As we sang and held a small service, several families from the community gathered near to hear. Christ calls us to be light in a dark world and we want to be used to reach Greenville for Christ! People from the community also joined in to play games with us and we started building friendships. It is a tremendous blessing to host this as a church!

september 6th worship and testimony -- rooted
We had a wonderful song service & testimony time in rooted this Sunday! Hannah Stuhl gave a wonderful testimony on how God can use our broken plans to further the gospel & grow is in ways we might never understand but we can certainly trust. What a great reminder that God’s way is always best!
Next week we will be starting small groups back up again and as a reminder we will be meeting in the auditorium first at 10:00 and then going into the gym at 11:00. We are looking forward to seeing how God will move in lives this year!

Gathering in the Park
We had 63 young adults join us at Butler Springs Park this past Sunday night. What a great way to come back together after an extended summer break! Praise the Lord we had food, fellowship, games & services! How wonderful to be out in our community openly and boldly serving God while sharing our faith. Pray with us that many seeds will be planted and rooted as we continue to gather together with the next generation leading the cause for Christ.
