Discussion Questions (some suggested answers in italics):
1) What are some common themes highlighted in the Gospels regarding the feeding of the 5000? (Compassion of Jesus; teaching and healing; human need and divine provision; use of limited resources; involvement of the disciples; abundance of God’s blessings; Jesus as the Shepherd)
2) What does Jesus’ ability to feed the 5000 reveal about his identity and divinity? (He is not just a teacher or well-intentioned rabbi, but God with you to meet your ultimate spiritual need, salvation.)
3) Why is rest such a vital component in the believer's life? (It is created by God. It is essential to effective ministry. It is good stewarding of your body and soul.)
4) What did Jesus instruct the disciples to do when the crowd was hungry? (Do something about the problem; don't simply see and acknowledge the problem.)
5) What lesson can you learn from the feeding of the 5000 about dealing with your own limitations? (Admit your limitations [you are not the Messiah], limitations are by design [your limitations should drive you to God and away from yourself], God will give you ministry opportunities beyond yourself.)
6) How can you better prioritize your time with God amidst your busy life? (Plan your devotional time every day. Acknowledge your need for God every day.)
7) How can you view interruptions by others as opportunities for ministry? (Be mentally and spiritually prepared to be patient towards others. Be mentally and spiritually prepared to give your time and resources to others. Remember what Jesus did for you.)
