Hallelujah! (Pastor Ontoy, Psalm 135)

Hallelujah!

Psalm 135

Outline:

Our Problem: We worship unworthy gods.

The Solution: Praise Yahweh!

     I.         The psalmist calls you to worship (1-4).

A.   Who? Yahweh

B.   How? Sing

C.   Why? God is good.

Praise Yahweh because He’s sovereign over all (5-6).

II.         Praise Yahweh as the all-powerful Creator (6-7).

A.   Supreme Position

B.   Supreme Will

C.   Supreme Source

III.         Praise Yahweh as the all-powerful Savior (4, 8-18).

A.   Remember His past acts of redemption (8-13).

1.    Exodus from Egypt (8-9)

2.    Conquest of Canaan (10-13)

B.   Remember His future act of vindication (14-18)

1.    Feebleness of idols (15-17)

2.    Fate of idol worshipers (18)

Call to Worship: Praise Yahweh (19-21)!

Sermon Discussion Questions:

1)    How did the Holy Spirit illuminate or convict you of truth this morning?

2)    What is the significance of the name Yahweh?

3)    Do you enjoy singing? Why or why not? Why is singing the duty and delight of every Christian?

4)    How does God being sovereign over creation impact how you praise Him?

5)    What lessons did you learn from the exodus account (v. 8-9)?

6)    What encouragement did you receive from the conquest account (v. 10-13)?

7)    Does God’s future vindication change anything about how you’re thinking/living right now (v. 14)?

8)    List some idols that Christians in your life stage are tempted to worship.

9)    If it’s foolish to worship idols, why do we still worship them? How can you better praise Yahweh this week?
