Following Jesus without Tripping

I was the summer intern at a church in Denver and the first Sunday a family took me to their favorite Mexican restaurant. We ordered. And I’m always amazed at how the waiters can hold all those different plates of food. As the waitress came to our table, she tripped & all those plates dumped all over me—and one of two suits I had to wear that summer.

My suit was like a walking sample platter. I could’ve gone around the restaurant and shown people the menu items.

“Could I interest you in this house burrito on my leg?”

“What’s that on your lapel?” “I believe that’s a spicy quesadilla. And on my tie you will notice a beef chimichanga.”

In this text, Jesus gives two warnings about tripping. The first warning in v. 42 is: Don’t trip a young believer by your spiritual pride & jealousy.
