Hello Pelham Road Community,
On behalf of our ELA Team and SIC, I am so excited to announce, and kickoff, our very first “Real Dudes Read” Program at Pelham Road Elementary School! This event will be held once a month after PTA’s Donuts for Dudes. The first program is next Thursday, November 14th from 8:15 – 8:45 AM. Research shows that the best role model for getting boys excited about reading seems to be dads, sport coaches and athletes, men the boys aspire to be! By signing up today, you are agreeing to be just that – a positive role model for all of our students. You will spend about 30 minutes with one of our amazing classrooms reading to all students, and even sharing ways that you read in your life and/or career. There will also be time for you to share some of your favorite books that you read as a kid. Book(s) will be pre-selected by the teacher so all you have to do is show up.
This program is not limited to just our 2nd grade dudes on November 14th. The reason behind scheduling the program on the same date as PTA’s Donuts for Dudes is to capitalize on all the dudes that we already have in the building each month. However, any dude can sign up – you do not have to be a parent of a 2nd grade student or dude of the grade level that PTA is hosting for Donuts for Dudes.
If you aren’t able to participate this month due to scheduling conflicts or if the Nov. 14th program is full when you go to sign up, please keep future dates in mind. PTA’s Donuts for Dudes are listed below. These will also be the dates that we will hold other “Real Dudes Read” programs:
• Jan. 9th - 3rd grade
• Feb. 13 - 4th grade
• March 12th - 5th grade
All dudes should sign-in in the front office upon arriving at school. Be sure to bring your ID. If attending Donuts for Dudes, then you will go to the gym after checking-in in the front office; if not attending Donuts for Dudes, you can report directly to the library. We will have volunteers and staff members to help you and make sure you make it to your classroom for the morning. If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you for your support!
