Obituary
Charles L. Sasser Jr.
April 5, 1952 – December 19, 2025
Charles Leon Sasser, Jr., (C.L.) of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his home on December 19, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1952, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to the late Lucy Annette Brown and Charles Leon Sasser, Sr.
C.L. was a kind soul with a deep love for his family, others and Jesus. In 1976, he came to know the Lord as his Savior, and from that moment forward, his faith became central to his life. He had a sincere desire for everyone to know Jesus as their personal Savior, and he lived that mission daily through kindness, encouragement, and faithfully handing out salvation tracts to those he met.
Throughout his life, C.L. dedicated his time to helping those around him. He volunteered by visiting nursing home residents, serving in prison ministries and working as security at his churches for a number of years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He worked as a line service manager at the Greenville Downtown Airport and then at the Bob Jones University Printing Division for 26 years. Most notably, he worked on the Web Press for the print shop.
C.L. was known for his warm smile, gentle humor, and thoughtful nature. He loved his UNC Tarheels and watching college sports. He enjoyed motorcycles, antiques, The Far Side, war history, and model trains. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family. His local grandchildren all loved to sit with their papa and watch old TV shows and cartoons. His habit of smiling, while thinking of something funny, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
His favorite Bible verses were…
Titus 1:2 “in hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
In addition to his parents, C.L. was preceded in death by his son, Charles Leon Sasser III (Chuck) and his daughter, Lisa Sasser McCullough.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 51 years, Peggy Mize Sasser; his daughters, Sunshine Kirkland (Jeff) of Taylors, SC and Kelly Wheeler (John) of Greer, SC; his sisters, Linda Wilson of Mamers, NC and Frances Patterson (Ronnie) of Mamers, NC; and his brother, Ronnie Sasser (Karen) of Valdese, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren: C.J. & Phillip (Chuck); Candy, Larry & Jesse (Lisa); Arayna, Trayton, & Toby (Sunshine) and Tabitha, Tara, & Troy (Kelly) and many great-grandchildren too.
Visitation of family and friends will begin at 10:00am at Morningside Baptist Church, 1115 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615 with the memorial service following at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Charles will be laid to rest at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC. There will not be a graveside service.
