TEEN CAMP (Speaker: STEVE PETTIT)

It’s time to “git yore dander up” for a little Friendly Feudin’!

We had no i’deer that the skirmishes that took place in West Virginy and Caintucky in the 1800’s would spill out into the hills of North Carolina. We dun divided up the camp into three mighty proud (and sometimes mighty ornery) families: the Calhouns, the Hatfields, and the McCoys. Instead of plinkin’ at each other with their trusty, rusty shootin’ irons, they’ll all be fix’n to engage in a might bit more civilized pastimes such as rollickin’ original games, Funtimes that are guaranteed to have folk in stitches, and, of course, never-to-beforgetted Freetime adventures! Why, it’s even true that all the Friendly Feuders will set down in The Snack and Cool Beans Coffee Shoppe to eat, slurp, and declare a truce in the squabbl’n’. Everbody will set down to hear some good ol’ fashion’ preach’n, have interestin’ cabin discussions, and enjoy refresh’n music. Y’all don’t want to miss out! See you at the Friendly Feudin’ grounds at The Wilds. Let the feudin’ begin!

Ages: Campers must be at least 12 years old by September 1, 2024, and going into Grades 7-12 or just completed Grade 12.

Cost: $405/$375 early bird if received by Feb 1, 2024 (includes a $50 registration fee)

To register your Teen, please complete the following:

  1. Registration Form and select Week 4 and note your church as Morningside.

  2. Required Liability Waiver.

  3. Immunization Waiver.

Around the World - Seniors' Spring Banquet

Around the World - Seniors' Spring Banquet

Our Morningside Seniors enjoyed a day “Around the World”.

The teen ministry sponsored a banquet on Saturday, February 18 for our senior saints. We gave the seniors a taste of different countries with special decor, food, music, and a highly competitive trivia contest. We visited for just a few moments the countries of England, France, Italy, Mexico, Taiwan, and Iceland.

The afternoon was filled with lots of great food and a fun trivia game. Pastor Webb shared a message from Isaiah and information about our teen mission team’s ministry in Iceland this summer.

We always enjoy the seniors’ fun, kindness, and generous support of our teens.

Our Around the World Banquet was a special time as loved serving others!

Teens serving for the Seniors’ Christmas Banquet

One of our most exciting opportunities for our teens to serve at Morningside is our service to the Senior Saints. We appreciate the sweet fellowship of our seniors, and it’s a joy to see the connection between these two generations.

The Seniors’ Christmas Banquet is one of the opportunities. Our teens are needed to help with preparing food and setting up for the banquet on Friday, December 2 (3:30-5:30 pm). We also need help on Saturday, December 3 (10:30 am - 3:00 pm) preparing and serving food as well as playing special music and Scripture readings.

Please sign up here to let us know you can help. All middle school and high school teens are welcome to help. For those going on the 2023 Iceland Mission Team, this will be their first fundraising opportunity.

Sneaker Hockey

Sneaker Hockey

Our annual Sneaker Hockey will be Friday, April 22 at the Pavilion Recreation Center. Bring a friend and join us for great fun on the ice!

Sneaker Hockey is played on the ice, but thankfully we’re in our tennis shoes instead of ice skates. The puck is replaced with a small ball. It’s a slightly deceiving activity because it’s a different feel to move and run on ice instead of a typical court.

Please arrive at the Pavilion by 9:45 pm for our 10:00 pm rink time. We will be done by 11:15 pm. The cost is $10.00 per person.

Check out some of the pictures from last year’s Sneaker Hockey event below.

Wait! We can’t forget about the food, Beth Smith has planned a special menu for this day. You won’t want to miss all the delicious eats!

Our teens will be helping set up and decorate on Friday, March 4 between 3:30-5:30 pm. We will finish preparing the banquet on Saturday, March 5 by meeting at church at 10:30 am. Teen Mission Team 2021 - Reno, Nevada

Teen Mission Team 2021 - Reno, Nevada

Praise the Lord for a great summer ministry in Reno, Nevada. Please see our video update below. Video credits to Austin Huffman

The summer of 2020 was difficult for many people in many ways. The most difficult thing for me personally was having to cancel last year’s mission trip. It was the first time in 25 years that Bethany and I have not lead a trip. In the summer of 1997, Bethany and I along with my best friend Stephen Wess launched out into our first teen mission team with eleven teens to help Pastor Greg Wright plant Westside Baptist Church in St. George, Utah.

Twenty-five years and twenty-five mission teams later, Bethany and I are still leading teens on foreign and domestic fields to serve the Lord and find their calling from God for the local church. Whether that be in a full time pastoral occupation, as a faithful layman, or the hybrid approach of bi-vocational, we are committed to seeing God use teens far beyond the youth group and Greenville.

This year it is our privilege to lead another group of excited teens to start the ground work for Stephen Wess and team members Andy Gleiser, Daniel Kelting, James Tilson as they plant a church in Reno, Nevada. We will be canvassing, working on some projects, and have opportunities to worship and serve in a local church while there.

Please be in prayer for our team to be effective for this team of church planters and for the Lord to call our teens to serve Him on the church planting domestic frontier.

If you would like to give towards this exciting, spiritually growing opportunity, please give to the Teen Mission Fund through our PushPay or if you would like to donate specifically to a teen then simply write a check and designate for that teen.

We look forward to giving a report of what the Lord accomplished through the teens from the Morningside Youth group at some point this fall.

Small Group Bible Study Defined: Who God Says You Are We’re excited to bring a new series to our teens for our Wednesday Fall semester - “DEFINED: Who God Says You Are.” We will walk through Ephesians and study our identity in Christ.

Small Group Bible Study

Defined: Who God Says You Are

We’re excited to bring a new series to our teens for our Wednesday Fall semester - “DEFINED: Who God Says You Are.” We will walk through Ephesians and study our identity in Christ.

“What you believe about your purpose and value impacts virtually every area of your life, including how you think and feel, the way you react to circumstances, and how you approach God and your relationships. What is guiding your core beliefs, and are they healthy and grounded on Biblical truth, or are they constantly changing to fit the opinions of others or your emotions?

Defined Bible Study features material for 8 small group sessions, with personal study between each group session. Explore the applicable Scripture that goes along with each lesson. Each session features a video with small group discussion and prayer.

Sessions include:

Sept. 1 — Uniquely Created by God

Sept 15 — Uniquely Broken by Sin

Oct. 6 — Transformed by the Gospel

Oct. 20 — Who We Are in Christ

Nov. 3 — What We Have in Christ

Nov. 17 — Living Out Our Identity

Dec. 1 — Walking in the Spirit

Dec. 15 — Walking in Mission

Please be sure your teen is here on Wednesday evenings and learning these valuable studies. We also welcome them to invite friends to join us! To further enhance their time in small group, please consider purchasing this study guide to help them learn more between sessions.

During our first study on September 1, we learned that “we are CREATED by GOD.” This revealed many reminders that God formed us and fashioned us for a specific purpose. We don’t want to let changing things determine our identity. We have to be careful that we don’t let feelings determine what we believe about ourselves.

Four Rights God Has to Declare Who You Are:

  1. He created you.

  2. God owns us.

  3. God has authority.

  4. God knows us better than anyone.

“God lovingly, intentionally, and wisely designed and made each one of us in His image on purpose for His glory. Everybody is God-planned.”

Parents, please commit to having your teen participating in this important study.

For our church body, please pray for God to use this time to reinforce a new generation who are facing uncertain times and a world that seeks to define them, outside of who God says we are.

WELCOME 2021

WELCOME 2021

The teens celebrated on January 24 a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year’s at the Darst’s home. We enjoyed great fellowship with a beautiful night we were able to enjoy Spikeball, Corn Hole, and Knock out, along with good food catered by Tropical Grill.

It’s exciting to finally be together after the Christmas break. Even though Christmas was already behind us, we couldn’t resist playing our yearly White Elephant Gift Exchange. It’s always fun to see what is brought, passed, and what everyone goes home with after the game is over.

We look forward to many blessings and our time together in 2021.

Spring Outreach

Spring Outreach

The teen ministry is excited to take part in many of our Spring outreaches. As a part of Morningside’s mission to “Love Others” the teens are preparing each month items for our Spring outreaches.

When working with teens, you quickly realize that they always have fun, but they’re especially fast. It was quick work a few Wednesdays ago for them as they prepared 400 plastic door hangers with information about Morningside, an invite to the Irish Concert, and a 9-volt battery. We accomplished this with plenty of time to spare.

This Wednesday, March 17, we will filled over 1,200 Easter Eggs for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. We still have some to go, and we will continue working the next two Wednesdays.

We’re excited the teens have a way of partner with our Spring outreaches.
